YELL's Accomplishments:

LEAD:

YELL lead Calgary’s LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment, Achieving a Difference) curriculum as well workshops which included Politics, Career Planning & Networking, Financial Literacy, Law & Restorative Justice, Indigenous Culture, Public Speaking and Scholarships.

Pretty In Pink:

Pretty in Pink is an annual anti-bullying campaign that was ran by the YELL Youth Council, in which they fundraised for a non-profit charity with a similar vision. Additionally, YELL presented assemblies to local elementary schools about what bullying looks like, and how it can be prevented.

All Candidates Forum:

The All Candidates Forum is an annual event in which the people from the community can ask candidates questions about their platform in the upcoming elections. YELL hosted 10 All Candidates Forum from 2007 to 2021, helping to inform the community about who they were voting for. This event saw the candidates on stage, where they answered questions submitted by community members, as a way to ensure that the people knew the person they wanted to vote in.

Civic Leader Engagement:

YELL Youth Council took initiative and reached out to leaders in the community, such as MLA's and MP's, councillors and mayors, in hopes of creating lasting connections that demonstrate the power of youth voices.

ABOUT YELL YOUTH COUNCIL

YELL Youth Council was a program for youth 13+ who wanted to engage in a formal, resume building, leadership program. All youth were welcomed and encouraged to participate in the council. Youth on the council showed consistent attendance to meetings and used their time to develop projects they were passionate about, as well as organize volunteer opportunities and events.
