YOU ASKED – How were the questions selected for the 2017 Chestermere All Candidates Forum?
Chestermere residents were invited to submit questions throughout the month of September, via email, directly to an independent Moderator who neither resides nor works in Chestermere. All questions asked at the forum were selected from resident’s submissions. No one, other than the Moderator (ie. Synergy staff, YELL Youth, Lake Ridge Community Church, Candidates, their representatives, and/or event volunteers), saw or heard any of the questions until they were asked during the Forum.
The Moderator reviewed all questions received and applied the following methodology:
1) Removed questions that were deemed offensive (ie. abusive language or violations of the Canadian Human Rights Act).
2) Separated questions into those that could be answered by a simple Yes or No and those that would best be answered in an open format.
3) Similar questions and questions asked in repetition were consolidated and only asked once.
4) Tight time lines allowed for only one open ended question per candidate. Questions that were asked multiple times by multiple residents were given priority.
Over 60 questions were asked in total during the Forum. If yours was not, it was simply due to the fact that there was not enough time to fit it in and we encourage you to contact the candidates to ask them directly.
The rules for questions submission can still be viewed at yoursynergy.ca/2017election
We hope this helps to clarify the process. Thank you for your interest and participation.
